Charts of deaths versus confirmed cases for countries with at least 50M population

Observations:

  • These observations and data exclude China and the US. For the US see Covid-19 - Visualizing the US and California data
  • On February 16, Japan was the fitrst of these countries to record a death.
  • On February 19, Iran took the lead in deaths with 4.
  • By February 27th Iran, Italy and Korea has taken the lead in deaths.
  • It is noticeable that from Mar thru Jun Japan (jp), South Korea (kr) and Malaysia appear to have slowed the growth and are passed by many other countries.
  • By March 26th Italy, Iran, France, the UK and Germany led the pack.
  • The European countries of Italy, Germany and the UK led the way in confirmed cases and deaths until they were caught by Brazil in the third week of  May, and by Mexico at the start of July.
  • Vietnam as of July 13 had only 331 confirmed cases and no deaths.

 

Observations:

  • China starts much earlier than any other country.
  • The first country to record a death after China (cn) is Japan(jp)  on Feb 11, followed by Iran (ir) on Feb 17.
  • By the 4th week of February, South Korea and Japan (countries close to Japan)  together with Iran and Italy have taken the lead in deaths.
  • By the start of Apr: Italy (it), Spain (es), the UK (uk), France (fr) and Iran (ir) had overtaken China in number of deaths and Germany (de) and Turkey (tr) were catching up.
  • By the start of May: Italy, Spain, France and the UK are clear leaders in terms of deaths, and Turkey, Russia (ru), India (in) and Peru (pe) are close behind China in terms of deaths.
