17 November 6PM
- Current status: DAQ and connection to SLAC test with CR, stable operation overnight; multiple trigger engines defined for the run and tested. We start tomorrow at 8AM and run until sunday 8PM.
- Discussion of Program . Main assumptions are on average rate, minimize number of changes, complete program with C before moving to Xe as C should be the main part of the run. Benoit pointed out that a reasonable time must be scheduled for Xe as fragmentation into many different seconday species require long running time to accumulate reasonble statistics: we currently scheduled 8-10 hours which should be enough. Beam tuning is the first step and will allow us to handle beam focus and rate at our wish. Shifts will be decided tomorrow after we complete the first configuration through tower 2 and have a better idea of how realistic the program is and when we should schedule the presence of specific people.
18 November 5PM
- Status: beam tuning was fast, quickly verified CU position and steered beam in place; collected ~250Kevents at 0 degree and 30 degree; beam rate varied at 0 degree; Francesco is working on updating the pipeline with new TkrRecon but some issues with new BTRelease must worked out with Michael - hope to have it by tonight; Fabio setup the remote control for Benoit scope in order to measure the cristal signal from the control room
- Program: see here for details ; indications show no rate effect at the highest rate we ran (200Hz) (Thierry), so we decide to use those settings for the rest of the run; comparison with 2003 results show no changes for quenching factors (Thierry), so we decide not to have dedicated run on tower1 as originally forseen for that purpose; will use the night for Xe as fragment production with target requires longer runs which are suited for night-time operation; luca, carmelo and sandro will stay until 4AM, luca B and johan will come back at 4AM to complete the night program; tomorrow we will perform dedicated runs (charge injection with beam on, scintillation measurement, energy scan) and complete statistics with C working on more angles or more events per same configuration
- Preliminary results (also posted on the program : Thierry showed consistency with 2003 results (quenching) and no rate effect for CAL; Leon showed cluster analysis in TKR that indicates 5.7 average cluster width; statistics is currently limited by older version of TkrRecon which assigns 1st track to delta rays and not to C ions - need to repeat analysis and evaluate required statistics per configuration when new TkrRecon will run in the pipeline
