Introduction

We (Bebo White and I) have received a proposal  for  students coming from Amity University in India which is about 6miles SE of the center of New Delhi. Bebo was there earlier this year and Bebo and  I have discussed their participation in PingER. At the time we were thinking of a couple of students.  We were looking at a task to extend a big data warehouse for PingER (using the Nebula Cloud and based on the work done by Thiago, the student from Brazil) that is database oriented and then provide tools for analyzing and presenting the data. A second project was to provide an Android app for PingER with support from Topher White.

They have now  identified 9 students to come to SLAC who could start in  February 2016 and be here until May 2016, all expenses to be paid by them. They can start to work remotely immediately. Four of the students are proficient in Semantic Web technologies and five in Android development. They are prepared to  start working remotely immediately.

Pre-requirements

They are all undergraduates and will need visas. To get a visa they will need a sponsor. SLAC cannot sponsor undergraduates.

They can work remotely.  As for accounts at SLAC they will need a SLAC ID.  As far as I know there is not a block against Indian undergrads getting a SLAC ID. To get this they will need to fill out the FACTS DoE doc and have a sponsor. Once they have a SLAC ID, they will be able to get an unprivileged SLAC account (will need sponsor) which will help with working remotely until they get a visa.
