We propose to switchover to the new oracle databases sometime during the period April 8-11. We will perform the following steps

  1. full backup of glast-oracle01 (to NFS disk)
  2. Restore into glast-oracle03
  3. Restore into glast-oracle04
  4. Brief (20 min) shutdown to make glast-oracle01 a "primary" server (may not be necessary)
  5. Make glast-oracle03 physical standby for glast-oracle01
  6. Make glast-oracle04 physical standby for glast-oracle01
  7. Shutdown Glast-apps
  8. Shutdown glast-oracle01.
  9. Make glast-oracle03 primary and change glast-oracle04 to be standby to glast-oracle02
  10. Repoint glast-oracle01 to glast-oracle03
    1. POINT OF NO RETURN
  11. Restart Glast apps

Note up until the "POINT OF NO RETURN" we can abandon the procedure should any unanticipated problems arise. Once we have switched the glast applications to the new servers it will be difficult to switch back to the old servers.
