Goals

Following on from discussion at the recent scientific computing workshop we would like to organize an informal series of meetings for developers at SLAC. The goals would be to share experience on existing or new techniques and tools, and to identify tools or resources for which better central support would be beneficial.

Organizing Committee

It would be good to find a few volunteers to help organize the meetings, primarily just to brainstorm on possible future topics and speakers. Should aim for involvement from as many different areas of the lab as possible.

Meetings

Is once a month enough? Would avoid running out of topics to cover too quickly, but would perhaps not be frequent enough to gather much momentum. Will there be any framework under scientific computing for this and other working groups to fit into?

Possible Topics/Speakers

  • FishEye (Brian?)
  • Redmine (Justin?)
  • More GIT discussion (Tim Skirvin?)
  • Testing tools (David?)
  • Hudson (Tony/Max?)
  • IDEs (features/comparisons)
  • Web/HTML5 development
  • GWT etc
  • GPU development
  • Targeting mobile/tablets
  • Coding Standards
  • Copyright/patent/open-source license issues
