The login security for Confluence and Jira is being upgraded. This improvement will require some users of the platforms to modify their account.
Login is only permitted for
- SLAC Windows/SSO accounts
- Registered accounts from federated institutions
What is a "federated login"? An access control federation is a group of institutions who agree to respect each other's login process. It enables institutions to offer services to people from other institutions in the federation, without having to generate duplicate accounts for those external users. For example, an external collaborator whose home institution is Brown University will select Brown University from the federated login page when they want to log into SLAC Confluence. It's more secure for institutions, and more convenient for users. SLAC is making changes to systems and accounts to enable federated login.
If you have a SLAC Windows/SSO account
If you have a SLAC Windows/SSO account (also called an Activity Directory or "AD" account), use that account to log into Confluence and Jira. Click the "Log In" link in the top right corner of the screen, and then select "Federated Login". Enter your SLAC Windows/SSO credentials.
If you have a SLAC UNIX account, but no SLAC Windows/SSO account
If you have a SLAC UNIX account, you should go to this page, where you can obtain a SLAC Windows/SSO account. You will then use the Windows/SSO account for logging into Confluence and Jira.
If you are an external collaborator without a SLAC Windows/SSO or SLAC UNIX account
In this case, you will receive an email invitation with instructions on how to update your account, so that you can use a federated login from your home institution.
If your home institution does not support federated login, you will be directed to apply for a special SLAC account, which will need to be renewed on an ongoing basis.
Reach out to your SLAC point of contact if you have questions.
