ACAT 2008 highlights "Are we ready for LHC data"

ACAT = Advanced Computing and Analysis Techniques in (High-Energy) Physics Research
Originated as "Artificial Intelligence is High Energy Nuclear Physics. The AIHEP92 conference was the first time WWW was presented outside of CERN (World Wide Web - An information infrastructure for High-Energy physics).

Highlights

  • Location was spectacular (Erice, Sicily)

  • Program was (of course) heavily slanted to LHC. Lots of stuff on (use of) Root.
  • Surprisingly little emphasis on GRID (taken for granted – or everyone is sick of talking about it?)
    • LLVM (Chris Lattner, llvm.org/Apple)
    • Multi-Core (Sverre Jarp, CERN openlab)
    • Xrootd (Andy, Fabrizio)
  • No labels
