Introduction
The DAQ system in use at MEC is prone to frequent crashes and errors that are not experienced at any other of the LCLS instruments. This page will document theories and tests as to why that is so.
Popular conjectures to date include
- Use of Opal cameras (camLink issues)
- Non uniform processing load at the DAQ servers
- Harsh environment (EMP)
- AMI-1 vs AMI-2

Items we can test:
- How does DAQ performance relate to the number of (and which) Opals are being run?
- Does this depend on whether data is being written to disk?
Alvium
Here is information about the Alvium camera. Here we are running it as a DAQ device and not a Controls device.
Basic page about the Alvium, this includes a link to the manual and information about the bit depth modes: https://confluence.slac.stanford.edu/display/PCDS/Alvium.
The DAQ GUI can be used to configure the camera.
- From the DAQ Control window, select the “Edit” button, which brings up a “Reconfigure” window.
- Scroll down under Device to find “Alvium_0 [ alvium_mid_mag]”.
- When that is highlighted you will see “AlviumConfig” listed under Component.
- Clicking on that will bring up the configuration options for the camera. Click on “Save” to exit.
- The “Apply” button must be clicked to make the changes.
