During operation of the Short Pulse Laser, we require extra shielding outside of the Target Chamber. This lead shielding is usually stored in the XRT in MEC's section. The shielding is either fully assembled walls, or brick + frames that must be stacked/unstacked each time the shielding is needed.

Lead Times

  • XRT access limits:
    • At least 2 weeks
    • POC should identify lead shielding needs and communicate to Area Manager (FDR, CDR)
  • Hazardous Waste:
    • 2 days
    • bucket for lead contaminated gloves, etc
  • Tech ticket:
    • At least 2 weeks
    • Need at least 2 techs due to time limitations for working with lead, more if stacking laser table-mounted shield
  • RP
    • At least 2 days
    • Sometimes they need to approve that shielding was installed before signing off on high power addendum in SPL BLA

Procedures
