  2. 10kV Connector Termination

    1. 10kV connector pack comes with the following:
    2. (Make sure that the P/N is 1065-2 and not 1065-1. The center pin on the 1065-1 has smaller inside diameter not compatible with our HV cable)
    3. First, slide the heat shrink onto the cable you want to terminate. Then, slide the terminator on.
    4. The HV cable will have the following layers:
    5. Strip the jacket back to the length indicated in the photo below. Use the connector to determine this length.
      1. The cut must be even. (TIP: Use an X-Acto knife.)
    6. Pull back the metallic shielding to the base of the jacket cutoff. Trim excess metal, but leave small rim of shielding.
    7. Strip insulation layer to the length indicated in the photo below. Use the gold pin to determine this length.
      1. The cut must be even so that the pin will be flush. TIP: Use an X-Acto knife. Pictured below: an uneven cut.
    8. Put gold pin in clamp and fill with solder.
      1. To do this, hold the soldering iron against the pin's side hole. You will need about 1" of solder.
    9. Put the soldering iron against the side hole again to soften the solder and insert the cable's conductor tip.
      1. TIP: Use a section of 22 AWG cable jacket to keep from inserting the conductor too far.
    10. Smooth out the ring of solder that has formed where the pin meets the cable. Use an X-Acto knife to do this.
    11. Fit connector over the pin.
      1. Put it on with gentle twisting motions–do not force it on. If it doesn't fit at first, smooth out the solder more. Pictured below: Cuong's tool for making sure connector is far enough onto the cable.
    12. Smooth what's left of the  metallic shielding back up over the connector bottom.
    13. Fit terminator onto base of connector and crimp (hole size .213").
      1.
    14. Put heat shrink over the terminator and base of connector and shrink to cable.
    15. Insert O-ring in tip of connector.
