Using flat crystals and special samples to spatially broaden FEL beam. Secondary sample diffracts liquid-like, flattening out the wave vector at a specific wave vector
Bent crystal will lose the signal in case of non-homogen.
Ideally this would be a general implementation at LCLS (just to have a proper source monitor). Current setup is good enough for most applications, but becomes important for eV spectroscopy. Would use zero port.
