TimeItemWhoNotes
30minExperiments that we would want to do

Tests we want to do

  • Tape targets: high repetition rate solid targets
    • Build from Florian Condamine's target described for ELI Beamlines
  • Studying LMI with use of a back reflection diagnostic setup.
    • Many facilities have existing guidelines/requirements on target normal angles relative to lasers.
    • Ideas on looking at back reflection
    • Issue: Variability with target types and laser architecture
    • When doing multi-beam experiments, complicated by plasma conditions of target
    • Lots of past work on JLF in FI and SI campaigns, developing backscatter diagnostic packages
      • Control measurements looking at backscatter exist as well.
  • Existing jet experiments on TPW had calorimeter on leakage of transport mirrors. Used plasma mirrors

Combined Experiment with tape drive operating on TPW (rep rated not needed)-

      • see the size of the damaged spot;
      • exercise actually the tape target
      • Measure backscatter spectrum, energy and wavefront
      • Dresden performance target is a good example (gives expected proton energy and electron spectrum)
        • Define a standard target for MEC-U to have a comparison to TPW.
      • Include a detector designed for EMP resilience
      • Potentially look at water cooled beam dump system (see material degradation and thermal increase)

Experiments requiring high repetition rate.

LaserNetUS avenue

In practice, getting dedicated time on TPW through LaserNetUS for facility readiness could be a good proposal

  • Standard PRP? There may be avenues to go either through the call or direct.
  • Chandra's campaign: April 24 – May 26 - but probably delayed a few weeks
  • Conversation on money to SLAC for this is going to come next year

At CSU, which is over-subscribed, we will need to use a compelling

SLAC - Belfast - RAL MOU for development of high repetition rate targetry for EPAC

  • Target system with improvements to thermal stability over time (measured)
  • 2 omega vs 1 omega short pulse experiments.
    • See if we can do the same physics at 2 omega as 1
    • Provide guidelines for MEC-U post-project directing towards 2 omega
  • targetry with jet
  • detectors (EMP / noise)

Cunningham, Eric Flint  Previous chats about more laser-centric experiments. Laser diagnostics that could go at two different facilities

  • Methods to directly measure on-target intensity
    • Zeeman splitting in gas
    • Other papers in review - campaign at CLPU; others forwarded by Siegfried / Griffin
  • Pulse intensity contrast at full intensity when high repetition rate isn't available

Action items

  • Gilliss Dyer consider if getting team members from the UAP could help with a campaign effort. At the very least, getting hands on deck.
