Absent: Alex Wallace

Previous meeting:

  • Which ICD items will beginning on.
  • High-level description on how we run the system.

Agenda:

  • HE-LP Laser System Procedural Documentation
  • LLE ICD HW/SW Responsibilities
  • HE-LP Device List

Discussion items

#ItemWhoNotes
1Laser System Procedural DocumentationJason Bender
  • LLE to develop an operational procedure document for HE-LP laser system.
    • From here, we will develop interfaces to subsystems.
2LLE Device ListJason Bender
  • Hardware device list will be collaborative as some systems will come entirely from SLAC (Motion, timing, laser safety) and some are custom for LLE
  • New/custom devices will need EPICS interface developed.
3LLE ICDJason Bender

3.1Shot ExecutiveJason Bender
  • SLAC to develop shot executive code based on LLE design.
  • It is vital to see how the shot process functions in order to understand how form code.
  • November 11-15, Diana will show Tyler J and Alex W how the shot process is performed from the controls POV.
3.1.1Code DevelopmentJing Yin
  • Jing requested use cases to understand software/code more in depth.
  • LLE is currently determining how much source code should be shared with SLAC.
  • LLE to find documentation of shot executive and facility operations to show how different systems are communicating with one another.
  • Previous presentation addressing overall architecture. Jason to resend presentation to SLAC.
3.2Power Conditioning UnitJason Bender
  • Custom from LLE
3.3Laser Safety SystemJason Bender
  • SLAC
3.4Pulse Shape Control and MeasurementJason Bender
  • Somewhat unknown

3.5

Laser Timing ManagerJason Bender
  • SLAC

3.6

Hardware Timing SystemJason Bender
  • SLAC
3.7TDC Time to Digital ConverterJason Bender
  • SLAC solution
3.8Motion ControlJason Bender
  • SLAC
3.9Digital ImagingJason Bender
  • LLE has collection of cameras they use. Will check SLAC supported device list.
3.10Energy DiagnosticsJason Bender
  • Imaging
3.11CalorimetersJason Bender
  • LLE has calorimeters that they have. Will share devices.
3.12SpectrometerJason Bender
  • Off-the-shelf devices.
3.13Regen/preamp Injection Pump and Wavefront ControllerJason Bender
  • LLE
3.14Plasma Electrode Pockets Cell (PEPC) Jason Bender
  • Custom LLE
3.15Vacuum SystemJason Bender
  • Similar beckhoff systems, SLAC.
4Creating Device ListsJason Bender
  • Device counts not needed at this level.
  • Need to identify the various device classes. Everything that needs to be replaced with a SLAC solution needs to be identified.
  • Iterative and collaborative process of forming the device lists where LLE will create an initial list for all definite non-SLAC ICD devices to be used. All systems that are SLAC-owned will be filled by SLAC.
5Sharing DocumentationJing Yin
  • Jing to ensure Jason is on SharePoint and can post the LLE ICD there.
6Weekly meetingsJing Yin
  • Weekly LLE/SLAC meetings every Tuesday.
7Roadmap for MECU (SLAC)Jing Yin
  • Current goal to expand control architecture.
  • We need to provide support to LLE to adapt to LCLS architecture.
  • LLE Laser System PDR coming soon. We need to help them adapt to LCLS architecture and identify what SLAC systems LLE cannot use.
  • We are unsure of the responsible parties for EPICS development of new systems and how much this effort will be.
  • The near goal is to push out the LLE ICD, identify gaps that do not support their needs, and negotiate how this will be sorted out.
  • We are confident that any additional devices that need EPICS integration will not cause issues as long as they are recommended by SLAC.
  • For this stage of the project, we want to ensure that we have a clear path forward for integration.
  • MECU design to start in November.

Action items

  • LLE to develop operational procedural document for laser system. Jason Bender
  • Jason to take first iteration of Device List. SLAC to fill gaps after. Jason Bender
  • Test Jason, Nate, and Tyler's access to SharePoint.
  • Jing to send weekly meetings for LLE/SLAC Laser and EPICS development.
