This page presents the procedures used to install the Long Pulse Laser colinear delivery platforms. The specifications of the platforms are detailed here.

Prerequisite

  • The target chamber has no large platform installed in it
  • Gather the referencing stoppers
    • Confirm that the shoulder screws are available
    • Confirm the stopper looks like the following

    • Gather the stoppers having the following label:
      • BEAM INPUT PERP CONF
      • FOCUS PERP CONF
  • Use wipes and alcohol to clean the debris from the breadboard surface which will accept the LPL delivery platforms

Beam delivery platforms installation procedure (coarse installation)

  • Stoppers installation
    • Orientate your view of the target chamber's breadboard by using the following picture showing the installed setup and its position compared to the LCLS input flange. The circled features can be used to orientate the correct section of the breadboard to start the installation (south west).

    • Install the BEAM INPUT PERP CONF stopper following this picture. Put the stopper at the correct orientation (use the reference surface for this), then insert the shoulder screw (green arc) in the correct hole (at the intersection between the refence column and row) and tighten. Secure the stopper by tightening the regular ¼-20 screw right next to it.

    • Install the FOCUS PERP CONF stoppper following this picture. Put the stopper at the correct orientation (use the reference surface for this), then insert the shoulder screw (green arc) in the correct hole (at the intersection between the refence column and row) and tighten. Secure the stopper by tightening the regular ¼-20 screw right next to it.

  • Mechanical installation of the platforms
    • Identify the Beam Input and Focusing platforms as shown by the following image. These platforms are stored outside the hutch in the cabinet labeled 'LPL', level 3 and 4 (TO UPDATE, add a picture of the cabinet?, add label to the platforms?).

    • Remove each 4" cross hair sitting on the bottom platform before moving the system from the storage to the target chamber: delicately hold them at the top, pulling them out from the magnet base, and put them in the storage cabinet until you are done moving the platform to the chamber(TO DO: remove the cross hair from the platform and have a small storage box built dedicated for these and numebr them)
    • Use a cart with an Al foil on top to transport each platforms. Avoid sudden release of the platforms or bump to it. Slide each platform from their storage location to the cart (need 2 persons), one at a time, drive the cart to the target chamber (roll the cart at the sticky mat to remove dirt on the wheel) and park it close to the south west target chamber door.
    • First, install the Beam Input platform
      • With one person on each long end of the platform, hold it from the top platform (avoid touching any actuators on all mirror mount) set one end on the target chamber breadboard, and then slide the rest inside the breadboard
      • Slide it in position just to let enough space for the next platform to be installed
      • Coarse and fine positioning is done in later steps
    • Second, install the Focusing platform
      • With one person on each long end of the platform, hold it from the top platform (avoid touching any actuators on all mirror mount) set one end on the target chamber breadboard, and then slide the rest inside the breadboard
      • Slide it in position just to let enough space for the next platform to be installed
      • Coarse and fine positioning is done in later steps
    • Confirm the platform are roughtly poisitioned as shocn in the following picture and that there are no gaps along the bottom platforms which could indicate that they are sitting on debris or cables

  • Coarse alignment of the Input beam platform
    • Using the two .5” pins (marked in blue) push the platform onto the optical table edge. That locates the platform in North-South direction.

    • Push the platform such that the edge of platform is touching the alignment block.
    • Securing the platform
      • Start by placing the 3 circular pucks in their recessed positions on the bottom platform

      • Add the screw and finger screw them down, without tightening at all. Make sure to use a washer to tighen the puck.
      • Once all the pucks have been inserted and the screw in position, re-confirme that the platform is still referenced with the pins and the stopper by pushing against each reference.
      • Tighten each of the 3 pucks to fully secure the platform
    • Visually confirm that the platform and its stopper match this picture

  • Coarse alignment of the Focusing platform
    • Push the front of the platform against the base of the hexapod, and the side to the alignment block

    • Securing the platform
      • Start by placing the 3 circular pucks in their recessed positions on the bottom platform
      • Add the screw and finger screw them down, without tightening at all. Make sure to use a washer to tighen the puck.
      • Once all the pucks have been inserted and the screw in position, re-confirme that the platform is still referenced with the hexapod and the stopper by pushing against each reference.
      • Tighten each of the 3 pucks to fully secure the platform
    • Visually confirm that the platform and its stopper match this picture

Beam delivery platforms installation procedure (fine installation)

Prerequisite

  • Set hutch in class 4

Fine alignment procedure

  • Retighten the wire of any crosshair that is loose
  • Locate and install each crosshair
  • Fine alignment of the Input beam platform
    • TBD
  • Fine alignment of the Focusing platform
    • TBD

VISAR platform installation procedure (TO DO)

  • This assembly can be used in all orientation (not only with MXI). It uses a 200mm focal length achromat as a lens. It has 3 Newport MFA stages. Two configurations are:

    • A: Configuration with MXI, with the assembly orthogonal to the X-ray (as in picture on previous slide): The two fingers at the front of the base are extended. That configuration allows the VISAR to be placed on top of the Hexapod cable and reference the hexapod flat.00

    • B: Other configuration, where there is no interference with hexapod cable: The two fingers are retracted, and the base is referenced to the edge of the hexapod where there is no cable.

  • Work your way outward with the hexapod cable making sure you don't pull on the cable but rather push on it to make sure you do not damage it at the connector
  • No labels
