Here is the AirA setup for pump-probe with IR laser, as it was during MFX L-10137.

X-rays and laser are focused and overlap at the interaction point (IP) where the IR camera as well as on- and off-axis cameras are pointing and in-focus.

Spatial overlap between X-rays and laser as well as their relative timing is achieved by following the signal recorded by an MSM detector reporting to the Lecroy oscilloscope (see below for more details on laser setup).

Spatial overlap and Laser timing

The sample holder shown below is placed at the IP :

  • The X-ray spot and focus is found by looking at the clear YAG with the on-axis camera. Crosshairs are set where the X-ray spot is found.
  • Turning X-rays off and laser on on the Ti foil, spatial overlap is achieved when the laser-spot overlaps with the cross-hairs.
  • Positioning the MSM detector at a 45deg angle behind the Ti foil, timing between X-ray and laser is achieved by monitoring the two signals on the Lecroy screen.
