  • Peregrine McGehee This one is probably in The Pit, close to the bottom of the western stairs. It's kinda sorta generically standing as the back-up control laptop for the VISAR laser, which is also an old Agilite system.
  • (we should really salvage this one and get a more appropriate back-up system for the VISAR laser laptop)

  1. Peregrine McGehee Anything with Tyler Johnson or Michael Greenberg listed as owner should likely be transferred either to the new ECS POC/SEA (which was Tyler's former role in MEC) or to the area manager (closest equivalent to Michael Greenberg's former role in MEC , which was MEC laser area manager (role no longer formally exists))

  2. The following computers for sure don't exist anymore:

    • mec-las-mcp-01:  ???, new Focus 8752 Ethernet controller for MEC laser pico
    • mec-las-mcp-02: ???, new Focus 8752 Ethernet controller for MEC laser pico
    • mec-las-mcp-03: ???, new Focus 8752 Ethernet controller for MEC laser pico
    • mec-las-mcp-04: ???, new Focus 8752 Ethernet controller for MEC laser pico
  3. Thanks, Eric. So presumably they went off into salvage at some point. A number of these machines are not, at least, immediately findable in the hutch so I will note the last logged custodian in my response back to Omar et al.

  4. Laptops found within the laser enclosure are listed below.

PC86012 used with mobile CCD cameras and diagnostics

PC90685 Used as the control computer of the OPOTEK laser

  5. Thanks, Marc. I updated the entry for PC86012. The OPOTEK control computer wasn't on the requested list of machines to check.

  6. Hi Peregrine McGehee --

When I was down in the FEH today turning off some devices (since we're on the secondary PG&E line today), I went through the laptop stack on the mezzanine really quick. I made three stacks – "Keep", "Ask", and "Discard" – and some notes on the print-out up there.

    Individual notes:

    "Keep" x 4:

    "Discard" x 5:

    "Ask" x 3:
: Hai-En Tsai are we decommissioning the MikroMove stage? or does someone have a plan for it?
: Welch, Marc E. do we need the old GLASS laptop that ran the pre-EPICS GUI? do you remember if there are any expert controls there that we would need?
: Tyler Johnson I only ever remember seeing Sameen Yunus use the attocube laptop but I don't have the foggiest clue what it was used for. Any ideas (before we re-purpose it)? Why does it say MEC:LASER on it?

  7. Looked at PC90957. It has a good CPU and is responsive with usefull software (e.g. gige). I put it in the 'keep' list even though it is not for the SID4 WFS.

    1. Sorry Eric, I could've saved you the time :/

  8. Cunningham, Eric Flint RE the attocube laptop, I don't have any recollection of this machine. Unless there's some special software on the machine that's needed, I don't see why it couldn't be repurposed.

  9. Thanks Tyler Johnson .  I turned on the attocube laptop, looks like it was originally intended as a backup EVO laptop but was repurposed for some experiment involving attocube stages. We will hold on to this laptop.

Peregrine McGehee I also pulled a few of the optical drives from the dead laptops headed for the scrap heap (since optical drives aren't standard anymore, it's useful to hold on to a couple for when we need them).

    1. The nanocube was used in the original PCI setup which has been disassembled and shipped to Germany. If we use a nanocube type device in the future, we would have to look at alternatives with ECS support anyway so don't hold on that laptop for the nanocube. No problemo if you want to keep it as a backup for the EVO then, it is all yours!

  10. Peregrine McGehee Why aren't the two VISAR streak camera computers on this list?

    1. This is the list of devices sent by Julieth and Omar. I don't know what the criteria for inclusion are.

  11. (Added several more hutch laptops to this list, for the sake of completeness and for retaining some of the hard work we've done in the last couple of weeks sorting through this stuff... On many of these, we need to have a conversation on how to sort through the custodianship on machines that belong to people not associated with MEC (e.g. Michael Greenberg, Omar, Joe Robinson, etc.).)

  12. Cunningham, Eric Flint Thanks for keeping this list useful.  These sounds a potential complex discussion. Factors include use of machine, role of the owner, etc.
