We usually recommend new users install the PingER/traceroute tools in two parts.

You'll need a Linux web server with perl, make, dig, mail, lynx, and crontab installed. Please disable SELinux if you're running it.

The first step is to install the traceroute server.  This is a good way to test that your web host has been configured correctly.

Start with the section on "installing a traceroute server".  Download the traceroute.pl file, place it in your web server's cgi-bin directory, and then try to run it.
