We usually recommend new users install the PingER/traceroute tools in two parts.

You'll need a UNIX or Linux web server with perl, make, dig, mail, and lynx, crontab installed.  Please disable SELinux if you're running it.

The first step is to install the traceroute server.  This is a good way to test that your web host has been configured correctly.

Start with the section on "installing a traceroute server".  Download the traceroute.pl file, place it in your web server's cgi-bin directory, and then try to run it.
