Given any home, group, or software folder in the form:

You can automatically view backups of that folder by accessing:

/cds/<fsgroup>/<fs>/.snapshots/<time>/<folder>

Where <time> indicates when the snapshot of that folder was created. Note that these automatic backups are for your home, group, or software data, not for your science data. The following guidelines provide a set of instructions to restore lost data on the Weka Cluster  administered and maintained by PCDS IT.

Example: accessing backups of your home folder

Steps involved in restoring data from $HOME for user omarq: Steps involved to restore $HOME Data 

  1. Access the Weka file-system  in question:

    cd /cds/home/o/<initial>omarq

    Note: the file system name of your home folder Where initital is the first letter of your user-idusername.

  2. Go to the .snapshot directory (e.g restoring data for user omarq)

    cd /cds/home/o/.snapshot

    Select the appropriate calendar date and time, the access point of the data is formatted as @GMT-YYYY-.MM.DD-HH.MM.SS (.e.g restoring data for omarq dated April 19th, 2021 at 6:00PM)backup directory and check the available snapshot times:

  3. Select the appropriate calendar date and time you are interested in. The time is formatted as @GMT-YYYY-.MM.DD-HH.MM.SS. For example, to access the backup for omarq dated April 19th, 2021 at 6:00PM:

  4. Browse for missing data and copy back to $HOME directory
