To transfer file associations, copy
oldWorkspace/.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.core.runtime/.settings/org.eclipse.core.runtime.prefs (or use example attached )
into newWorkspace/.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.core.runtime/.settings/
