Problem space

Why are we doing this?

Problem statement

This version of BSAS is targeting IOCs on the superconducting linac.  The goal is to have a variety of beamline elements supply data which is synchronized to the arrival of the electron beam.

Impact of this problem

This beam synchronous data is important to a variety of machine studies including machine learning and high-level physics applications.

How do we judge success?

The acquisition of data in concert with the overall timing system will be stored in a structured data file and validated by accelerator physicists.

What are possible solutions?

A new timing system is integrated into each IOC having devices capable of providing beam synchronous data.  Custom firmware and a device driver on board each IOC will provide structured data at some predefined rate which can be extracted using standard EPICS v7 APIs using the PVaccess protocol.
