The run control is done from ECal control PC, with SVT control steps done from another PC at appropriate times. Here is the sequence as handed down from Sergey.

Normal Operations

Have to press the  buttons :

  • Reset SVT
  • (After SVT is Ready) "Prestart"
  • (If desired, change trigger from the pull-down menu in another display)
  • "Go"
  • "End"

Can loop it around multiple times if the run conditions are good. The full SVT Reset was not in the original sequence, but it seems to help with the issue of occasionally having too high or too low occupancy for a random chip.

The trigger options have to be set in another display on the same computer from a pull-down menu. This has to be done after pressing "Prestart" button and before pressing "Go". This is the only time to change the trigger. Attempted changes at any other times will NOT go in no matter what option is (still) showing in that window.

Recover Operations

If there are abnormal conditions present, then have to press the following buttons: "End" -> "Abort" -> "Reset".

Then have to go into individual control windows:

  • in hps1 window:
    • prompt> hps1 dmafree <Enter>
    • prompt> Ctrl-C
    • another prompt> (press upper arrow for the previous command) <Enter>
  • in hps2 window:
    • prompt> hps2 dmafree <Enter>
    • prompt> Ctrl-C
    • another prompt> (press upper arrow for the previous command) <Enter>
  • in hps tracker window: prompt> Ctrl-C
  • Then have to recover SVT on a different computer before proceeding with the following:
  • in hps tracker window: (press upper arrow for the previous command) <Enter>

Now is the time to press another magic sequence:

  • Press "Configure" button in the main GUI. Usually need to press it twice, slowly. Then answer the pop-up menu.
  • Press "Download"
  • Press "Prestart"
  • (If desired, change trigger from the pull-down menu in another display. This is the only time to do it, after "Prestart" and before "Go". Any changes done before the "Prestart" will NOT go in!)
  • Press "Go"

That should do it! But if the run fails to start (no events with or without the beam), you might have to repeat the sequence again.
