JLAB - Hall B - Required Training for Shift Taking

This is a summary of required training in order to take HPS shifts at JLAB in the Hall B counting house.

If you will not be taking shifts and will only be going to the counting house to work, then technically GERT training and a valid JLAB badge should be sufficient for unescorted access past the accelerator gate.  In order to enter the pit without the required trainings, you will require escort by trained personnel as well as a temporary dosimeter for the day which you can get from RCD.

Radiation Training

An overview of the required radiation training for shift taking can be found here.

The most convenient option is taking the class online to review the material.  Then the test portion can be completed at the user support center (building 28) on a walk-in basis during JLAB working hours.  Once you have passed the test, they will provide you with the RWP and a dosimeter request.  Then they can schedule the practical portion for you by telephone, or you may contact RCD directly.

Once you start the Radiation Worker I training, GERT training becomes invalid in the training system.  So it is best to complete the Radiation Worker I training promptly once started, because if you have been using GERT training for counting house access, then you will lose this while the radiation training is in progress but incomplete.
