Subject: HPS Target

We should start forming the detailed plans for the design of the target assembly with multiple targets.

A) How many targets, their materials, size, gap in the vertical between targets, etc?

B) We will need a drawings.

C) Design and Fabrication. Marco, can we do this at SLAC? Marco reported that this can be done at SLAC.

D) Schedule - we need to make one.

- design of target elements by the end of October ? ok

- fabrication drawings for assembly and targets?

- fabrication of holder and targets?

- assembly of ladder for installation in instrument?

- installation and checkout of instrument with slow controls? Takashi, will control be done in HPS software or in slow controls?

The target control and the SVT mover will be done by the Hovanes' group. However, since these controls are so important,  we need to test it at SLAC using the real target and SVT modules without sensors. I am hoping that we can get the complete EPICS system from JLab. Takashi

HPS Protection Collimator

A) Design the ladder to hold a few collimators, e.g.

1) opening of size 1.5 by 10 mm with 10% RL tungsten collimator

2) opening with size 2 by 10 mm with 10% RL tungsten collimator

3) opening with size 1.5 by 20 mm with 1cm tungsten collimator

4) ...

B) We will need a drawing of the instrument that holds the ladder. See attachments

C) Location of instrument: about 50 cm upstream of first Frascati magnet

- support on guider in alcove

- getting control signals in and out

- slow control requirements

- etc

D) How will we get this done?

- JLAB person for guider interface, installation, slow control interface and commissioning at JLAB: yes

- design and fabrication of ladder - Marco, can we do this at SLAC?

This will probably be done at JLAB unless beam test of silicon detectors shows a more complicated approach needs to be considered.

E) Schedule - we need to make one.

- design of ladder and collimator elements by the end of October ? Yes, this is a goal.
