Possible candidates that have been mentioned in the past:

TID supported camlink cameras (still need some daq integration):

  • Basler Ace (Medium)
  • Imperx C1921(Base, Medium, Full or Deca)
  • JAI CM140 (Base)
  • OPAL1000 (Base)
  • Teledyne Piranha4 (Full)
  • Uniq UP-900CL-12B (Base)

Thoughts from Giacomo:

  1. The Alvium 1800 U-240m remains the top pick for the following reasons: good rate at 176 fps @8-bits, great dynamic range @72 dB, incredibly low noise for a small cam @2.7 e-, 64% quantum efficiency at 529nm, 3.45 µm pixel size so very good for imaging. Sensor size is a bit small @1/2.3, especially compared to our giant Piranha  but that’s about the only compromise really. We have these on hand and they are readily available and relatively cheap.
  2. The Imperx CLF-C1921 seems a good alternative if it can be integrated in the DAQ faster than the Alvium. Good rate at 174 fps @8-bits, 143 fps @10-bit, incredible dynamic range @77 dB, couldn’t find specs yet for noise and Q efficiency, but the dynamic range suggests these should be good, 4.5 µm pixel size is good for imaging. Sensor size is relatively large at 2/3” optical format. I don’t know price and lead times, but I have RFQ in the pipeline.. Assuming there are no surprises there, I would say this looks good for ATM.
  3. If I look at Mantas in general here is one possible option, which ends up being somewhat similar to the Alvium: Manta G-158. Rate 75 fps @12-bits (?), dynamic range @71.6 dB, very low noise @2.1 e-, 64% quantum efficiency at 529nm, 3.45 µm pixel size is small so like Alvium, very good for imaging. Sensor size is also very small @1/2.9, so that’s not great. I would say this is our third option, just because the small sensor size could be annoying, but again if this could be quickly integrated in the DAQ it may be better than staying with the discontinued OPAL! These are 1k$ each.
  4. Manta G-419 is pretty slow (28 fps), and has a so-so dynamic range @ 56 dB and relatively high noise at 13.7 e-, so I would cut this one..
  5. I don’t even look at the phantom S991 cause I know this would break the bank (wasn’t this >20k$?)
  6. Finally, let me mention the Basler Ace camlink, which are an interesting option too. The acA2000-340kc has 340 fps and a pretty large sensor, so that’s somewhat unique compared to all the other cams I have seen. If we are trying to boost up the rate a bit this one could be good. The only downside is that similarly to the Manta G-419 the dynamic range and noise are not great. Similar problem for the AcA2040-180kmNIR, but I would consider this one interesting because it is NIR-enhanced and so it could very important to boost our sensitivity at 1µm.
  7. Teledyne also has some good options, like the Genie Nano-CL C2450, but again the dynamic range is not stellar (56 dB) so I am not seeing too much a reason to go that way.
