Brainstorming

From above’s inventory, we have the following cameras fully working:

  • Opal 1K: 1
  • Opal 4K: 3

Assuming we keep all CXI cameras, the inventory looks like this:

  • Opal 1K: 1
  • Opal 2K: 2
  • Opal 4K: 4

I suggest we keep the damaged Opal 1K (currently on the NF/FF system for the SPL) and the damaged Opal 8K (¾ damaged) for students, for example. When I was aligning the Dream endstation OAP, they were running the Opal 4K from a laptop. The imaging viewer was very basic but no daq needed and self-contained system, so I think this would be ideal to leave to students for tests and imaging that we could have them do someday (we have several unused laptops).

From the inventory above, we need to keep one for the NF/FF (use the available 1K). However, I think we should replace the time tool camera because no Opal can run at 120Hz and the new beampath allows us to run the timetool at full rate. That would free an Opal 4K, so we would have:

  • Opal 2K: 2
  • Opal 4K: 4

to use on diagnostics around the target chamber, assuming we buy an appropriate alvium/gige to match the full rate. I would keep one 4K for LPL spot size measurement always attached to an imager. If we consider we have 5 black boxes around the chamber (not including the NF/FF), it means we could have one Opal in each of these box having one Opal left.
