The MEC Long-Pulse Laser (LPL) is a 100J nanosecond driver for high-pressure, dynamic compression experiments at LCLS. Located in the Far Experimental Hall in Hutch 6, an infrared continuous-wave laser is temporally shaped by an electro-optic modulator to generate low-energy seed pulses which are amplified (in a home-build, 10Hz, diode-pumped, Nd:YLF-based pre-amplifier and then a series of flashlamp-pumped Nd:glass power booster and power amplifiers) and then frequency-doubled to produce a total of up to 100J of 527nm light on-target.
