One way to reconfigure an xps controller:

  1. Switch it off.
  2. Unplug the cables.
  3. Boot it up.
  4. Do Auto Configuration in the XPS Web Interface. It shouldn't be able to find anything on the channels, and should ask what is there for all the channels.
    1. Note: You can access the XPS Web Interface through a button at the top of the motor controller screen on EPICS.
  5. Put in the stage file for each channel.
  6. Reboot to load in the new configuration.
  7. Power off.
  8. Put the cables back.
  9. Power on.
  10. Initialize Stages.
  11. Home those stages you "own"/wish to use, etc.

Steps 1, 2, 3 and then 7, 8, 9 may not be necessary. This really depends on whether there are stages attached still have their smarts or not. Bold steps are the necessary ones.
