Wiring

The limit switches for pneumatic actuators and the LED for the profile monitors are wired up to the old LCLS profile monitor chassis hardware. Here is a useful drawing for the wiring:

Convention:

0 is the OUT limit switch

-500 is the OUT position in EPICS controls

-500 is the High (soft) Limit

Low (soft) limits are probably -40000 or -70000 or there abouts depending on the actuator. There are IN limit switches installed.

All values should be -ve. Some actuators are about 50 mm travel and some are about 100 mm travel. The long and the short is that if you are going lower than  -50 mm and you haven't seen a target, there is probably something wrong.

Checkout:

To set up an OTR, please do the following...

  1. Check that the in and out limit switches work by driving the motor to them
  2. When on the out limit switch, go to the motion control "Motor Record" screen. Go to "Set" (as opposed to "Use") and put the motor destination value to 0. This won't move the motor- it just resets the current motor count to 0.
  3. Move the OTR to the target positions. Usually this is at minimum a "mark" (for calibration) and an OTR target. It may also include a YAG and other targets. At each target position record an image on the camera and the motor position.
  4. Record f-stop in elog

Calibrations:

Use the recorded image of the "mark" to set the calibration PV value.

EDM Screens:

After the hardware checkout, the EDM panels need to be updated with the recorded ladder positions. -500 should be the OUT position (we don't like running repeatedly into the limit switch).
