ATTENDEES:

Kuhkee, Partha, Ernest, Terri, Patrick, Diane
DISCUSSION TOPICS:
Hardware setups:

  • Kuhkee needs an RF IOC (VME+EVR) with timing, on the development network, connected to LCLSDEV(NIC 1) and multicast(NIC 2).  Kuhkee has a crate, needs an EVR
  • For BLD we need a VME (no EVR necessary) connected to LCLSDEV(NIC 1) and multicast(NIC 2)

SoftIOCs and Development Environment Setup:

Diane and Debbie need a Controller softIOC on development with access to production read-only PVs, and to development test IOCs (RF, Magnet, BPMs etc)

Partha needs the same Controller softIOC on development with access to production read-only PVs, development test IOCs (RF, Magnet, BPMs, etc).  We would like to have two versions of this Controller softIOC running on development, one (fairly stable) to support Parthas work on the Configuration App, and one that Diane and Debbie can develop on, that will likely be restarted frequently.

We discussed ways to avoid PV name conflicts between the two Controller softIOCs, and between the read-only production PVs and test hard IOCs (RF, magnet, BPMs).  The approach of macro-izing PV names and using different names in development imposes rather steep effort on the client software such as the Configuration App, channel watcher, EDM, alarm handler. The java client software in particular will get it's list of names from the oracle database - it is time-consuming to produce a separate database with development names, also time-consuming to include name translation code in the java app...

Discussed a plan to set up a filtering Gateway on development. I will attempt to describe this plan, but Terri and Ernest, please correct me if I'm wrong on this description! And add you're details if it needs to be clarified.

This Filtering Gateway will take as input the read-only PVs from our production Gateway. It will filter out PVs that are duplicated by the development test hard IOCs (RF, magnet, BPMs...). eg: if our RF IOC test stand is the test version of  ioc-in20-rf01, then the Filtering Gateway will filter out the ioc-in20-rf01 PVs from production. The Filtering Gateway and one Controller softIOC (for Partha), and test hard IOCs will use the LCLS standard port assignments for Channel Access.  The second Controller softIOC (mine and Debbie's) will also listen to the Filtering Gateway, and will use non-standard port assignments so that other IOCs on the development network do not have to see it (???)...(Terri, fix this if necessary - this is probably not a good description but I don't have notes on it...)
ACTION ITEMS:

  • Ernest to have hardware setup for Kuhkee and BLD before vacation next Wednesday(!)
  • Terri and Jingchen to set up the development environment for the softIOCs
  • Terri and Jingchen to set up the Filtering Gateway for development
