The purpose of this page is to come up with a good wishlist for the folks who are designing the LSST database interface. After our original discussions, we came up with the following list of possible queries:

  • Having cutout images be one of the possible outputs returned by a database query
  • Being able to get difference images
  • Having a simple query to identify groups of galaxies
  • Selecting on blended blue light next to red light.
  • Having the database be able to do a match on objects detected in previous surveys (e.g., SDSS)

Note that these were queries in addition to those already listed on the web site at http://lsstdev.ncsa.uiuc.edu:8100/trac/wiki/dbQueries

Phil has had some discussions with Jacek at the all-hands meeting and Jacek wants to know about "hard" queries. His example was:

  • given this interesting light curve, find all objects with a similar light curve

So, let's not be restricted by what we think the limitations of the database interface may be!
