GRITS is an acronym that stands for:

  • G INO (which itself a recursive acronym for "GINO Is Not OPUS")
  • R elease Manager
  • I nstaller
  • T ag Collector
  • S ystem Tests

The name was chosen to unify the set of infrastructure tools developed by the GLAST SAS group. The originval versions of these tools were atomic, standalone applications largely written in Perl by individual contributors. It was recognized that these tools have a lot of common overlap in functionality, and that they would benefit from a common code base with a reimplementation in a higher level language that supported better maintainability, scalability and more collaborative development.
