h1. Wire Scanner and Collimator Meeting Minutes, May 2, 2006 ^ h2. Contents {maketoc}^ h1. Attendees: | James Bong, | René Correa (_absent_), | Tim Montagne, | | Tom Porter, | Patrick Krejcik (_absent_), | Doug Murray | | Hamid Shoaee | | | h1. Agenda: # Review previous actions. # Procurement; what needs to be ordered # Review status. h1. Previous Actions: # *Doug* will determine if BC1 motion readback can be isolated to specific positions. h1. New Actions: (_summary; see details below_) # *James* will order the remaining motion control equipment for injection commissioning. # *Doug* will request 4 ethernet ports for collimator and beamline motion testing in Bldg 26. h1. Minutes: # Previous actions: ## Doug spoke with Paul regarding the area of BC1 requiring the greatest resolution. ### Ideally, if only a small part of the total travel distance requires high resolution, we were hoping to use Tom's idea for tandem, high and low resolution LVDTs. ### Paul said that 16 cm of the total 30 cm of motion required highest resolution. He also said this resolution was 250 µm. ### A quick calculation on Tom's part tells us that a single, large LVDT will have enough resolution across the entire range of motion for BC1. # James prepared a list of outstanding items that need to be ordered. ## The list included equipment to instrument 10 motors; 7 sets of wire scanners, 2 collimator jaw motors and the BC1 articulating beamline motion. ## The list includes: ||| Part Name || Channels Supported | *Need to order* Highland Technologies V550 LVDT Conditioner | 8 | 3 SLAC 8 CH LVDT Breakout Chassis | 8 | 2 Hytec 8601 Motor Controller IP card | 4 | 4 Hytec 8002 IP carrier | 16 | 2 Hytec 8906 VME Transition Board | 16 | 2 DB50 (SCSI) cable from 8304 to 8906 | 4 | 2 Hytec 8906 breakout chassis | 4 | 4 Hytec SMDS4 Motor Driver Chassis | 4 | 4 Hytec SMDS4 to 8906 interconnect cable | 4 | 4 Power supply module | 4 | 4 power supply rack | 12 | 2 SLAC 125-433 10 CH resistor Chassis | 10 | 1 Caen V965 Charge integrating ADC | 16 | 1 SLAC 135-133 8 CH HV distribution Chassis | 8 | 2 || ## The laser heater motion required for the undulator gap will not be required until late 2007. ## James will order the remaining equipment required for injection commissioning as soon as possible, with the exception of the Caen ADC; Bob Fuller will order that as part of a larger order. ^ *Action*: *James* will order the remaining motion control equipment for injection commissioning. ^ ## Doug asked to check that we have enough connectors for everything, including SCSI-II, lemo and others. ### James mentioned that each wire scanner also needs a 22-pin Burndy Trim Trio connector. ### There was some discussion about the merits of changing the connections with the new wire scanner designs, since we're using a subset of those 22 pins. ### Tim mentioned that the design work and drawings are already complete, and although it would be a simple task, there's nobody free to do it. ### We agreed to stay with the existing connector designs for now. ## The order for photomultiplier tubes, bases, flexible PLIC-type cable, gas distribution equipment and more needs to be specified and reviewed separately. ## Tom mentioned that he would be ordering all of the motors, including those for contingency and test purposes. ## Tim confirmed that his assembly plans for the collimators and wire scanners include LVDTs, and we need not order more. # We briefly reviewed status and discussed outstanding concerns. ## James and Tom met with Leif last week to discuss the BC1 schedule milestones. ### BC1 finishing and testing will occur in Bldg 26. We will need ethernet ports there. ^ *Action*: *Doug* will request 4 ethernet ports for collimator and beamline motion testing in Bldg 26. ^ ## Tim reminded us that the BC1 collimator mechanical design review has not been held. ## Tim also reminded us about a new wire scanner drive mechanism for a Beryllium foil target drive on BC2. ### It will behave more like a collimator, since a downstream OTR will be used to measure the profile after collimation. ### He expects it to have the same resolution and drive requirements as a wire scanner. ## Tim mentioned that vacuum chambers for some of the initial wire scanners arrive this week, so assembly will start at SLAC very soon. ### He said we might be able to expect a wire scanner assembly in late June. |
