There are contractors on the SLAC site who want network access. Typically this is handled by them procuring a DSL line from AT&T, typically connecting this to their switch and thus providing the contractor with their own subnet.

DoE also has some contractors on site for an extended period of several years. They are making soils analysis etc. They have already occupied trailer 285 at the start of the accelerator and the networking has been setup for them.

Now, 4/6/2010, they want to occupy trailers 294 and 271 inside the fence and close to SSRL. The networks will be administered by SSRL and a switch has been purchased. Once again the contact person is Janice Dabney.

Policy

• Networked printers are servers and are not allowed on the visitors subnet; in order to allow printing from the visitor subnet, the printer *must* be properly managed and maintained. This means a SLAC person must be responsible for ensuring its management. This will provide print queues etc that can be configured on each required computer so that they can print to it.

• Hosts (laptops/desktops) on SLAC public networks must be properly managed.  This means a SLAC person must be responsible for ensuring the management of these hosts. If there is no such person then the hosts must reside on the visitor subnet.
