Intro:

This guide will provide an overview of the software procurement and installation process. It is intended as a reference for new mechanical engineering hires who will be producing and editing mechanical components for the TID-ID ECS group.

Procurement:

This section will cover the procurement and installation process for Solid Edge, the SLAC standard computer aided design (CAD) software package and Team Center a product life cycle management (PLM) package.

Step 1: You’ll need to process two Service Now requests one for each software package.

  1. Service Now Request
  2. Note: When requesting the license for Team Center you may be asked to confirm the type of license required. As an ME you will be creating and editing existing parts and will require an Author License.

Installation:

Once all the requests are approved by your manager / supervisor and processed by the IT department you’ll find the self-installers inside of the Software Center application. Use the windows search bar to find Software Center on your device.

Note: Start with installing Solid Edge installation. You may also need to restart your device for the software to appear in Software Center.

Solid Edge:

Step 1: Run the Solid Edge installer from the Software Center application.

Step 2: Once Solid Edge Installation is complete you will need to run MDSync app. You can search for this app in your windows search bar.

Select “OK” once the dialog windows appear.

Step 3: Once MDSync is complete begin running the MDPostInstallation app. Several dialog windows will appear and require user input once validation has begun.

Assuming this is your primary workstation select “Yes

The following window will appear. Select “Validate” to begin the process. More dialog windows will appear during validation, be sure to select “OK” as they pop up.

Step 4: If validation was a “PASS” you can select cancel and restart your device if required. If validation “Failed” you likely missed a dialog window. Begin the process again and be sure to select “OK” as dialogs appear.

Solid Edge is installed, and all the proper SLAC config files should be up to date. You can now move on to the Team Center installation process.

Team Center:

There will be two Team Center applications that will need to be installed.

Step 1: Run the Team Center 12 installer from the Software Center application. Wait for installation process to complete.

Step 2: Run the Team Center Visualization installer from the Software Center application. Wait for the installation process to complete.

Step 3: As a new user, you will be provided Log-in credentials in the self-installation pdf provided after the Service Now request has been processed. Be sure to watch the required introductory training video for an overview of Team Center workflow & processes.

Known Issues:

Issue: Insufficient Team Center privileges when requesting check out:

Solution: This is an issue with your group ID permissions. You’ll need to request to be added to the group that owns the part file.

Administrative Tools: You’ll need these tools for project and task management.
