In order to collect XAS data using the 7-element detector through either the webXAS or xmapGUI programs, the Linux computer must first connect to the Xspress3 detector electronics server and start the EPICS IOC there.

  • Open a Terminal window on the Linux Machine.  In the upper left hand corner pull down menu, select System Tools → Terminal
  • In the terminal window, type
    • ssh -Y xspress3@192.168.43.7
  • At the password prompt, type
    • x5pr3553
  • Once logged into the server, type the following command:
    • xspress3-ioc.sh

At this point, you should be able to run either the web Ge program inside webXAS, or run xmapGUI, and see spectra.  If that does not work, leave the terminal window open, close all Firefox windows or xmapGUI application windows, restart ICS, and reopen the application.

WARNING! DO NOT CLOSE THE TERMINAL.  (Minimizing the terminal window is OK).  This will cause you data collector to stop collecting data from the 7-element detector.  In this case you will need to repeat the connection steps above and most likely will need to close applications, restart ICS, and restart applications.
