You'll need a Linux web server (e.g. running Apache) with perl, make, dig, mail, lynx, ping, traceroute and crontab installed. Please disable SELinux if you're running it. The host name should be registered in DNS.

  1. The first step is to install the traceroute server, see http://www-iepm.slac.stanford.edu/pinger/tools/install2.html. This is a good way to test that your web host has been configured correctly.
    Start with the section on "installing a traceroute server".  Download the traceroute.pl file, place it in your web server's cgi-bin directory, and then try to run it.
  2. Next install the ping data gatherer (ping_data.pl), again see http://www-iepm.slac.stanford.edu/pinger/tools/install2.html
  3. The next step is to install the PingER measurement tools, which can be found here:
