Procedure to align the main laser through the compressor and the IP area.

Assumption is that the Laser room alignmentStartup Procedure and Transport Auto-alignment Procedure procedures have already been completed and thus the compressor beam block is inserted.

ND filters should already be inserted in the laser if the RP attenuator is out.

A) Prepare the IP for IR

Steps to make sure no cameras are shot out and the probeline is blocked. The laser should start aligned through the transport but blocked by the beam block in the compressor.

  1. Put in ND filter flippers for IPOTR1 and IPOTR2 (FACETHOME→Experiment→S20Beckhoff FACETHOME→Experiment→LI20→Beckhoff Digital I/O).
    1. Use the toggle switches on the S20 Laser Control Panel to avoid digging through the Beckhoff menus.
    2. IPOTR1: Top row, fourth module from the left (MAKE SURE YOU AREN’T USING IPOTR1PD).
    3. IPOTR2 : Top row, third module from the left (C).
    4. IPOTR1P: Top row, fourth module from the left.
  2. Confirm on the cameras that the filter flippers are in by watching features on the images vanish.

  3. Ensure the OTR foils are out. Double check it .

B) Compressor alignment

Align to the compressor near and far field references. (Do we normally do this alignment with RP attenuator in or out?)

  1. (FACETHOME→Profile Monitor→LI20).

  2. Make sure the target mount is out of the way (FACETHOME→Experiment→LI20→MOC-LI20-MC05).
    1. Channel 2 is horizontal is removed at -150.
    2. Channel 1 is vertical and is removed at -20.
  3. Set probe attenuator to minimum (FACETHOME→Experiment→LI20→MOC-LI20-MC01 Channel 2) and block probe beam (FACETHOME→Experiment→S20Beckhoff Digital I/O).
    1. Attenuator minimum energy is MC01 Channel 2 at 37deg.
    2. Block probe beam with top row, first module from the left (A).
  4. Verify the laser is blocked in the compressor.
    1. Look at the motor position on compressor beam block, 0 is in (FACETHOME→Experiment→LI20→MOC-LI20-MC03 Channel 3).
    2. Check that no beam is visible on CompNear.

B) Compressor alignment

  1. If the RP attenuator is removed, insert ND in the tunnel.
    1. Compressor NF FF on the S20 Laser Control Panel.
    2. PB NF FF on the S20 Laser Control Panel.
    3. If the RP attenuator is inserted in the laser room, make sure the ND flippers are instead removed
  2. Check irises are all open in the laser room.
  3. Insert ND in the laser room.
    1. Flip the full power laser ND filter into the common beam path of DMNear and DMFar cameras.
    2. Install the full power ND filter before the lens in the InjNear and InjFar camera line.
    3. Install the full power ND filter in the wavefront sensor and MO beam path.
    4. Flip the ND filters in front of both the wavefront sensor and MO camera to the in position.
  4. Insert ND in the tunnel.
    1. CompNear and CompFar
    2. PBNear and PBFar
  5. Open motorized iris
    1. .
  6. Verify both the optics mover in the compressor and the optics mover in the PB are removed from the laser path.
  7. Block laser after MPA.
  8. Remove RP attenuator.
  9. Unblock laser after MPA.
  10. Move compressor beamblock out of the beam.
  11. Align to CompNear and CompFar.

C) PB alignment

Once the beam is aligned through the compressor, align through the PB and the bypass line
    1. Compressor optics mover: out is the vertical motor at 100 (FACETHOME→Experiment→LI20→MOC-LI20-MC04 Channel 2).
    2. PB optics mover: out is at 100 (FACETHOME→Experiment→LI20→MOC-LI20-MC03 Channel 4).
  1. Call ACR and have them insert TD11.
  2. Insert the USHM and the DSHM (Compact Tunnel Panel→USHM→Insert, Compact Tunnel Panel→DSHM→Insert).
  3. Drive out the compressor beam block, 50 is out (FACETHOME→Experiment→LI20→MOC-LI20-MC03 Channel 3).
  4. Check that the beam is visible on CompFar. If it isn't do the following:
    1. Close the iris to -5 and find the beam on CompNear and PBNear.
    2. Align to CompNear using B6 (FACETHOME→Experiment→LI20→)
    3. Align to CompFar using M1 in the compressor ()
  5. Close the iris to -5 and align to CompNear using the Laser Aligner.
  6. Open the iris to -40 and align to CompFar using the Laser Aligner.
  7. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until the alignment converges.

C) PB alignment

  1. Close the iris to -5 and align to PBNear using the Laser Aligner.
  2. Open the iris to -40 and align to PBFar using the Laser Aligner.
  3. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until the alignment converges.
