Description of the board and how to operate it here: MCC boards at SLAC.

Irradiation of 3D sensor on micro-carrier board in Birmingham

  • Write action items.

Hello Cinzia,

we had some chats at SLAC. It seems unlikely that the micro carrier boards can be
ready (completed and tested) for an irradiation by mid of September. However, a
later slot in September (just before or after the 3D meeting) sounds doable.

In parallel to the micro boards, we are also working on the mechanical support.
For the shielding, we will use graphite as it will get less activated compared to
copper. A few centimeters are enough (for a 40 MeV proton beam).

One question is the cooling, which we may or may not need, depending on the
beam current. We read that this type of cyclotron can deliver up to 60 microAmps
for protons. This is huge and in that case we very likely need cooling.

Do you know what is the actual beam current at Birmingham?

Another question is the cooling off (activation) and shipment to CERN. Can we
let the boards cool off on site, and can we have them shipped to CERN directly once
they are cool enough?

Many thanks in advance,

Philippe
