  1. Check the monitors in the hutch are on. The TV remote typically sits in the northwest corner (far right walking into hutch door from control room), below the TV or on the metal racks or bench under the TV. This can turn on all the Samsung monitors. The one by the hutch door can be reached by a tall person, a small stool/ladder, or the remote. these both monitor the same cxi-daq screen.
  2. If the monitors in the hutch will not turn on, then make sure they are plugged in. NOTE: there is power strip on top of the clean-vacuum-smocks locker, by the hutch entrance that has the TVs plugged into power and into the DVI splitter. Make sure all things are plugged in properly and that the surge protector is on supplying power (the light is a faint or non-existent, so toggling down towards the strip seems to be on). This controls both the TV above the hutch door and the one to the far right (northwest corner).
  3. once the TVs are on see if you recognize what is on the screen. In my situation I had a blank desktop with no windows in it, which was not the case on the cxi-daq  machine. if the images match (mostly) then you are done here. If not, continue on.
  4. Go to System>Preferences>NVIDIA X Server Settings from the red hat toolbar.
  5. on the left of the new window there is a tab labeled "X Server Display Configuration". Click it.
  6. You should now see all of the monitors laid out (this is also where you might readjust wandering monitors that have been turned off by accident).
  7. in my screen there were extra monitors. not sure what the top right is. The highlighted bottom red is the mirrored screen. I could drag images off to the right of my rightmost screen and it would appear on the hutch screens, as if they were extensions of my monitor layout. This is not great for beamtime, but could be useful in other situations perhaps.
  8. THE SOLUTION was to drag and drop that red "TNT" monitor box into the the third box representing my rightmost real-world monitor screen, then clicking apply. like so:

Info

PRO TIP: open webcam-cxi-northeast in order to see the monior in the hutch so you don't have to get p from the control station, cxi-daq, nor lose your seat!

REMINDER: I was duped, like a bad security guard from a crime heist movie ("Saltwater's 44" comes to mind), my not making sure my webcam feed was live, as I was troubleshooting. Hit refresh, the webcam might be on the same power strip I power cycled. Conveniently, there is a clock right below the TV you are monitoring...make sure the time changes or the camera moves to be sure you're looking live...
