- An extra 32-bit word precedes the V2 header. The 8 most-significant bits carry a (software) configurable number (contact R. Herbst for information regarding the semantics of this number), the lowermost 24 bits are zero.
- The entire message (including extra word, V2 header + footer as well as the payload) is byte-swapped on 32-bit boundaries to network byte order.
