"Wiki" comes from the Hawaiian word for quick. It is essentially a website that allows anyone with read privileges to write to it. For example, if I find a typo or a broken link on a website, there is no need to contact the webmaster and have him/her input html code to change it. Instead, you could click on a link on that page that says "Edit this page" and edit it yourself. For example, see this wiki page on Wikipedia.org: <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiki>.

This wiki is created using a program called Confluence. It employs the following formatting conventions: Links to pages that explain how to use the wiki are in CaMeLcAsE; links to pages that relate to NanoBPM stuff are Typed Normally.

Here are two quick rules of thumb for using this, or any other wiki:

  1. When creating pages, be sure to generate a short, descriptive name. For example: "Interim Progress Report 2001" is a better name than "Report". However, whatever name you choose, make sure to use the same name throughout the entire wiki. This is known as hyperlink persistence, and is needed to avoid orphan or duplicate pages.
  2. It is a good habit to fix typographical errors and grammatical mistakes as you see them. Don't expect someone else to do it! Updating the wiki is an ongoing collaborative process.

Please consult the NotationGuide and play in the Sandbox to familiarize yourself with editing this wiki. If you still have unanswered questions, please consult the FAQs or email Guan Wang at guan@slac.stanford.edu. Please be patient, as building up the wiki is an ongoing process. Good wiki-ing!
