How to unplug a motor in AMO

Because of feedback issues, there is a very specific process unplugging the power cable from an IMS motor (or an MForce motor controller)

  1. Determine which rack has the motor power supply for the motor.
  2. Turn off/unplug the linear encoder and proximity switch DIN-rail-mounted power supplies (+5V=linear encoder, +24V=proximity switch)
At this point, do not try to move any of the motors on the table; doing so will screw up the motor's remembered position.
  3. Turn off the motor power supplies for the entire table. It's easy to get screwed up and turn off the wrong one, so just turn 'em all off.
  4. Wait 5s or so before continuing. Gives time for the capacitors in the PS to bleed.
  5. You can now disconnect the cables and do your work.
  6. Reconnected the cables.
  7. Turn on the motor power supplies.
  8. Plug in the linear encoder & proximity switch power supplies.
  9. Reboot the table's motion IOC using the 'Network & IOCs' button on the AMO home display.

You should now be able to connect to the motors in EPICS.
