How to unplug a motor in AMO
Because of feedback issues, there is a very specific process unplugging the power cable from an IMS motor (or an MForce motor controller)
- Determine which rack has the motor power supply for the motor.
- Turn off/unplug the linear encoder and proximity switch DIN-rail-mounted power supplies (+5V=linear encoder, +24V=proximity switch)
At this point, do not try to move any of the motors on the table; doing so will screw up the motor's remembered position. - Turn off the motor power supplies for the entire table. It's easy to get screwed up and turn off the wrong one, so just turn 'em all off.
- Wait 5s or so before continuing. Gives time for the capacitors in the PS to bleed.
- You can now disconnect the cables and do your work.
- Reconnected the cables.
- Turn on the motor power supplies.
- Plug in the linear encoder & proximity switch power supplies.
- Reboot the table's motion IOC using the 'Network & IOCs' button on the AMO home display.
You should now be able to connect to the motors in EPICS.
